Karela (Bitter Gourd) Bharwa Recipe

Bitter gourd is very nutritious although few of us don’t like the bitterness of this vegetable but due to immense health benefits it is widely preferable. It contains iron, magnesium, potassium, vitamin C, calcium, beta carotene etc. But the recipe today will change the thought about its bitter taste as the recipe here is very delicious, let’s learn step by step process to prepare karela bharwa recipe.

Karela (Bitter Gourd) Bharwa Recipe

  • 2 Pieces Bitter Gourd (Slices them from between and boiled for 30 minutes)
  • 2 Medium Onion (Roughly chopped as per your choice)
  • 2 tbsp Garlic
  • 1 tbsp Mustard Powder
  • 1 tbsp Amchoor Powder or lemon juice
  • 1 tsp Salt (As per your taste)
  • 2 tbsp Coriander Powder
  • 1 tbsp Turmeric Powder
  • 2 tbsp Mustard Oil
  • 1 tbsp Curry Powder (Any vegetable spices)
  • 1 tbsp Choped Spring Onion (Totally optional)
  1. Boil each pieces of bitter gourd with a pinch of salt.
  2. Heat 1 tbsp of oil in a pan and fry chopped garlic.
  3. Add chopped onion and spring onion in the same pan.
  4. When onion turns translucent then add salt into it.
  5. Add mustard powder, turmeric, curry powder of your choice, coriander powder in the pan and give it a stir.
  6. It is not required to add water but if you want them to get soft soon then add 2 tbsp of water.
  7. When they turn soft turn off the flame.
  8. Add lemon juice in it and mix it properly.
  9. Take bitter gourd pieces and make them hollow with the help of spoon, and fill the ingredients.
  10. Heat 1 tbsp of oil in a pan and sear these filled bitter gourd so that they get roasted from outside.
  11. Bharwa recipe is ready to be served.
