Traditional Uttapam Recipe | Indian Lentils Pancake

Uttapam or uthappam is a healthy savoury pancake all the way from South India. It is extremely scrumptious, fluffy and crispy. Add toppings of your choice to make it your own version, veggies, masala or paneer as you want it, just it is a hearty meal under 15 minutes. Serve it with any dips like coconut chutney, green chutney, sambar or ketchup. This easy recipe is Vegan and Gluten-Free.

Uttapam a South Indian popular dish. Traditionally Uttapam is made with rice and lentil batter, which can be a long process, soaking, grinding then fermenting the batter but here I’ve not fermented it, instead I added eno fruit salt to make it instantly. It can be served as breakfast, snacks and dinner. Let’s learn step by step process to prepare this recipe.

 

Uttapam Recipe | Indian Lentils Pancake

  • ½ Cup Rice (Soaked for 6 hours )
  • ¼ Cup White lentils (Soaked for 6 hours )
  • ⅙ tsp Fenugreek seeds (Soaked for 6 hours )
  • ½ tsp Salt
  • ½ tsp Eno fruit salt
  • ¼ Cup Water
  • 2 tbsp Chopped onion
  • 2 tbsp Chopped tomatoes
  • 2 tbsp Chopped capsicum
  • 1 tbsp Chopped green chilli
  • 2 tbsp Clarified butter (For greasing the pan )
  1. Take soaked rice and lentils strain and transfer it into a grinder jar.



  2. Add salt to taste and eno and take a whirl around, then transfer it into a bowl.



  3. Add water to prepare its consistency.



  4. Grease a pan or a griddle then with the help of a ladle spread the batter as shwon.



  5. Add toppings, cover and cook it.



  6. Cover and cook for few minutes.



  7. Serve it with sambhar, chutney or sauces.
