Navratri Ashtami Navmi Prasad

Navratri is the nine-day fast dedicated to Goddess Durga, it is one of the biggest festivals of India. Devotees worship nine incarnations of the Goddess on these auspicious days. The eighth day of Navratri is Ashtami when people keep fast of goddess Durga’s most significant incarnation. In many households, Ashtami is celebrated with much fervour. From seventh to ninth day there is great solemnization, and hence on the seventh day, there is a process to prepare sweetened porridge, on the eighth-day people prepare halwa that is pudding and on ninth day they prepare khichdi. But here I am preparing the most considerable prasadam which is halwa puri and chana. Let’s learn step by step process to prepare this.

Navratri Ashtami Navmi Prasad

Halwa Preparation

  • 1/4 Cup Semolina
  • 2/3 Cup Gram flour
  • 3 tbsp Clarified butter
  • 3 tbsp Sugar (As per the taste)
  • 1 Pinch Cardamom powder
  • 1 tbsp Each almond, cashew nuts and raisins (Chopped into small pieces )

Chana preparation

  • 1 Cup Black gram (Soaked overnight)
  • 1 tsp Urad gram (Split black gram)
  • 1 tsp Cumin seeds
  • 1 tbsp Curry leaves
  • 1 Piece Red chilli
  • 1 Piece Bay leaf
  • 1 tsp Turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp Kashmiri red chilli powder
  • 1 tsp Coriander powder
  • 1 tsp Sabji masala powder
  • 1 tsp Cumin powder
  • 1 tsp Roasted cumin powder
  • 1 tsp Salt (As per the taste )

Poori/Puri Preparation

  • 1 Cup Wheat flour
  • 1 tsp Celery seeds
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1 tbsp Clarified butter
  • 1/4 cup Water (For kneading the dough )
  • 2 Cup Mustard oil (For frying )

Halwa Recipe

  1. Take all the ingredients as shown here



  2. Heat a wok and add clarified butter into it.



  3. When clarified butter starts melting then add semolina into it.



  4. Fry it and then add gram flour into it.



  5. Mix them well and fry it unless it turns brown.



  6. Add water and cook them well.



  7. Add all the dry fruits and sugar into the wok mix them well.



  8. Halwa is ready to be served.



Chana Recipe

  1. Take overnight soaked brown or black gram, and microwave it for 20 minutes, or pressure cook it with 4 whistles.



  2. In a wok add 1 tsp of split black lentils.



  3. Add cumin seeds, curry leaves and red chilli in the wok.



  4. Add bay leaf and mustard oil into it.



  5. Add all the spices into it.



  6. Add boiled chana into the wok then add salt and mix them well.



  7. Chana is ready to be served.



Puri/Poori Recipe

  1. In a container add a cup of wheat flour.



  2. Add celery seeds, salt and clarified butter and mix them well.



  3. Add water and prepare the dough.



  4. Cover it with a damp cloth and put it aside.



  5. After 20 minutes remove the damp cloth and divide the dough into equal parts.



  6. Roll poories using a rolling pin and rolling board.



  7. Fry them.



  8. Serve it.
