A tour to the Alki Beach Seattle Washington | United states
This weekend, we decided to visit Alki beach of Seattle Washington, we started our journey from Bellevue, and it took almost 40 minutes to reach there. We parked our car and started walking by ourselves. It took almost one hour to walk across the seashore and reach the lighthouse. But by the time we reached there, the lighthouse was closed, as we spent most of the time bare walking, but still, it was fascinating, due to the mesmerizing view, the sumptuous aroma around, the people giggling, playing, eating and enjoying. As it was the time of the summer season, the weather was lively so as did the people around. With volleyball courts, a sandy beach, a pathway for walking and stellar skyline views, Alki Beach is awesome in the spring and sunny summer, and equally awesome on moody and grey fall and winter days.
About the Alki beach park:
Alki Beach Park is a 135.9-acre park located in the West Seattle neighbourhood of Seattle, Washington (downtown Seattle is across Elliott Bay so the skyline views here are just about perfect) it consists of the Elliott Bay beach between Alki Point and Duwamish Head. It has 0.5 miles (0.80 km) of beachfront, and it is the first public salt-water bathing beach on the west coast of the United States. It is open daily from 4 am to 11:30 pm. Alki Beach is the kind of place that makes living in or visiting the Northwest such a treat. This stretch of beach in West Seattle is a great spot to relax, play, and enjoy the scenery. Seattle history has it that this place is the landing site for the first white settlers in Seattle the Denny party.
Things to do at Alki beach:
We went there just for a complete walk but there are many fun activities which can be done, for full beachy fun, head to Alki Beach Park where you’ll find abundant of things to do amassed together. Unlike many Northwest beaches, it has sand which is black or grey in colour, so you can spread out a beach towel and relax, have a picnic or build a sandcastle. Like most Northwest beaches, expect tidepools and driftwood and seaweed — all of which make tide pooling a worthwhile activity. Whether you relax on the beach, at a picnic table or instead, Alki Beach is an excellent place to stop and enjoy the view as you can see downtown Seattle, the Olympics, the Puget Sound and plenty of boat traffic meandering by. Alki Beach Park is one of only two parks in the city of Seattle that allows bonfires, and it allows them all year round in designated fire pits that are first come, first served. Watch the sunset or stargaze. Walk, run, roller blade or otherwise get out and get active along the beach trail, a paved strip that goes for 2.5 miles and offers up beautiful views of the city and Puget Sound. There are several restaurants along Alki Avenue SW, which is the road that runs parallel to Alki Beach. While Alki Beach spans most of the West Seattle shoreline, most restaurants and facilities are located in or near Alki Beach Park.
Things to Determine at Alki beach:
In addition to magnificent views of the water, the city and the mountains, Alki Beach also has a few points of interest. The Alki Point Lighthouse is still in operation and has free tours on weekends during the summer. It was built in 1913. If you want to get up close and personal with the lighthouse, you’ll find it at 3200 Point Place SW. If you scrutinize on local history, look for the Birthplace of Seattle monument at Alki Point, near Alki Avenue and 63rd Avenue SW. This is the spot where the Denny Party landed in 1851 and built a settlement that they called New York Alki (“Alki” is a word in Chinook that means eventually so they had big plans). However, the Denny Party had to abandon the site in less than a year due to hardship there. Alki Beach even has a miniature Statue of Liberty at Alki Beach Park. The statue stands 6 feet tall and was installed by Boy Scouts in 1952 (but had to be replaced with an exact replica in 2007 due to repeated vandalism).
Overall, it was an amazing experience, we had spent time together walking and watching the area around, it was awesome to be there, no matter in what mood you are in, this place is for everyone. One can spend the whole day there walking, doing fun activities, strolling around and spending time with family or friends. I will suggest pre-booking the volleyball court if you are interested as the space need to be booked beforehand. Also, bring your ball and net. I am a pure vegetarian and I keep my food along wherever I go but there are many choices of restaurants.
