Instant Dosa Recipe| Rice and lentils Dosa with Chutney|Snakcs, Breakfast, Dinner

Dosa is a popular South Indian thin crepe made with fermented rice and lentils batter. History of dosa says that they were made using only rice but with the passage of time, people started to add urad dal black lentils to give it a texture and taste. In this version of dosa I have added rice, gram lentils and black lentils just to make it more delightful and crispy. For this recipe, we need to soak and grind the ingredients which are then fermented to form a crepe known as dosa. Dosa is very healthy protein-rich breakfast or dinner, lunch recipe, urad dal is high in protein and calcium, it makes great food to have it either in lunch breakfast or dinner.

In this recipe I have not fermented the dosa batter, as it is the quick version, so adding fruit salt that is eno is enough to make it instant dosa, the main benefit in this version is it does not turn acidic, those which sensitivity in teeth can understand the fear from acidic food. Let’s learn step by step process to prepare this super delicious recipe.

For Dosa Preparation

  • ½ Cup Rice
  • ¼ Cup White lentils
  • ¼ Cup Gram lentils
  • 1 tbsp Clarified butter
  • ½ tsp Salt
  • 1 Cup Dosa filling
  • ½ tbsp Eno (Fruit salt)
  • ¼ Cup Water

For Chutney Preparation

  • ¼ Cup Gram lentils
  • 1 Piece Green chilli (Add chillies as per your taste )
  • 8 Pods Garlic
  • ½ tsp Salt

For the Tempering

  • ½ tsp Black mustard seeds
  • ¼ tsp White lentils
  • ⅙ tsp Gram lentils
  • ½ tbsp Mustard oil
  • 5 Piece Curry leaves
  • ⅐ tsp Asafoetida (Optional )

For Dosa Preparation

  1. Take overnight soaked rice and lentils, wash and strain it.



  2. Grind it to form a smooth paste add ¼ cup of water to adjust the consistency.



  3. Add salt to the batter and even eno to make it instantly.



  4. On a griddle apply some clarified butter, sprinkle some water droplets if you are using traditional iron griddle, but if it is non stick then do not sprinkle water. Place the dosa batter on the griddle.



  5. Cover and cook it then place some potato dosa filling.



  6. Wrap it and serve it.
