Chuda / Chiwda Matar fry | Fried poha

Want to have something at home to munch on without worrying about calories, then chivda is your snack. Yes, it is not completely guilt-free but it is better than deep-fried or sweet snacks on a daily basis. Chuda fry is the most savoured Indian Snack recipe of all time. Chuda fry is tasty for sure and can also be easily cooked at home. It can be prepared and stored, you can eat it anytime with tea or give it to your kids if they are a little hungry, they will surely love it. Chivda has a balanced flavour of sweet and spice, which makes it an ideal snack for your kids and family, Prepare Chivda and munch on the goodness of flavours with your family and friends. Fried Poha Namkeen is made in two ways:

1. You can deep fry the poha and then mix it with other ingredients.

2. You can also shallow fry Poha as I have done here in this post.

It’s medium spicy with a balanced flavour of sweet and tangy. In short, it has ‘chatpata’ taste. I am preparing chuda matar fry, which is flattened rice and peas. This homemade Chivda recipe is easy-to-make and tastes great too. This traditional recipe is also one of the easiest recipes to put together, especially when you have sudden guests dropping by and you are not in a mood to make much efforts to prepare any other dish. Moreover, this delectable dish is prepared in several ways and every region has a different version of this dish, what makes it even more interesting is the fusion of crunchy poha, finely chopped veggies, spices and herbs.  Let’s learn step by step process to prepare this recipe.

Chuda / Chiwda Matar fry | Fried poha

  • 1 Cup Flattened rice
  • 2 tbsp Peanuts
  • 2 tbsp Green peas
  • 1 tsp Mustard oil
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1 Piece Dried red chilli
  • 1 Piece Slit green chilli
  • 2 tbsp Chopped onion
  • 1 tsp Curry leaves
  1. In a wok add 2 tbsp of peanuts and roast them unless they become crunchy, transfer it into another container when it is done.



  2. In the same wok add 1 tsp of mustard oil and add curry leaves.



  3. Add dried red and green chillies.



  4. Add chopped onion.



  5. When onion turns translucent, then add peanuts.



  6. Add salt and mix them well.



  7. Add green peas and cook them together.



  8. Add flattened rice and stir fry them.



  9. When flattened rice starts to splutter then it is done.



  10. Serve it directly, or with curry or chutney, even it can be preserved in an airtight container for further use.
