Dewri Temple is also believed to be the only temple where six tribal priests, known as Pahans (पाहन), perform rituals and offer prayers alongside the Brahmin priests. At the temple devotees tie yellow and red sacred threads on bamboo for the fulfilment of their wishes. Upon the fulfilment of their wishes, they again come to the temple and untie the thread. The deity of this temple is believed to be very powerful.

Sun Temple

Sun temple is another significant religious attraction of Ranchi, located at 39 km from the city. It lies on the Tata road in Bhundu, near the Bhundu village. Its main attraction is a statue of a chariot present in its premises with 18 wheels and 7 horses. The theme of temple is same as Konark temple of Puri. The temple looks like a chariot. This temple was built by Sanskrit Vihar and presently is managed by Shri Ram Maroo. A dharamshala and pond also lie near this temple. This pond also serves as a sacred place for Chhathavratis.

The Surya Mandir is said to have been established around 800 B.C. by King Shamb. It is dedicated to the worship of the sun God Surya and was initially built beside the Surya Talab (तालाब), a pond that could supposedly cure leprosy and other skin diseases. It was later shifted to the middle of the village.

Legend tells us that King Shamb, while suffering from leprosy, discovered the Surya Talab (तालाब) that cured him when he bathed in it.  The statues in the temple were supposedly found in this pond.  The temple’s sanctum hosts the black stone statues of Lord Surya in his chariot, along with his mother, brother and his son.

Behind this statue is one of the Navagraha Surya, where all nine planets can be seen.   Beside Lord Surya is a statue of Lord Vishnu.  Outside the sanctum are the statues of Devi Parvati and Lord Buddha, and a small shrine depicting the nine incarnations of Lord Surya.
The temple is frequented by devotees and sufferers of leprosy as well as childless couples.  Celebrations of Chhath Puja are also held here twice a year.
