Modak Recipe
Modak is a sweet dumpling shaped recipe prepared mainly during Ganpati festival, traditionally this recipe is made with rice flour filled with desiccated coconut and jaggery, but nowadays several variances to this recipe is available. I tried making this recipe with all-purpose flour and filling of khoya, dry fruits and semolina. Let’s learn how to prepare modak recipe.
Modak Recipe
- 1 cup All Purpose Flour (Maida)
- 1/2 cup Semolina
- 1 tbsp Each dry-fruits like resins, cashewnuts and almongs
- 4 tbsp Sugar
- 2 Piece Crushed Cardamom
- 2 cup Vegetable Oil
- 2 tbsp Vegetable Oil/Ghee (Clarified Butter)
- Take a deep utensil and mix all purpose flour with clarified butter.
- Mix them together to form a binding consistency.
- Knead dough as shown in the image.
- Divide dough into small bolls and with the help of rolling board and rolling pin prepare a flatbread.
- Apply water on the edges of flatbread so that they can stick together while preparing dumplings.
- Put the mixture of semolina, dry fruits, khoya and sugar and prepare modak. Note: (For filling dry roast semolina unless it turns golden brown, add dry roasted khoya, dry roasted cashew nuts, resins, crushed cardamom and sugar)
- It should be folded in the same way as shown in the image.
- Deep fry them using clarified butter or any vegetable oil.
- Modak is ready to be served.
