Durga Saptashloki (श्री दुर्गा सप्तश्लोकी)

                                             ॥ शिव उवाच ॥

देवि त्वं क्तसुलभेसर्वकार्यविधायिनी। कलौ हि कार्यसिद्ध्यर्थमुपायंब्रूहि यत्नतः॥

                                               ॥ देव्युवाच ॥

श्रृणु देव प्रवक्ष्यामिकलौ सर्वेष्टसाधनम्। मया तवैव स्नेहेनाप्यम्बास्तुतिः प्रकाश्यते॥

                                               ॥ विनियोगः ॥

ॐ अस्य श्रीदुर्गासप्तश्‍लोकीस्तोत्रमन्त्रस्यनारायण ऋषिः, अनुष्टुप्‌ छन्दः,श्रीमहाकालीमहालक्ष्मीमहासरस्वत्यो देवताः, श्रीदुर्गाप्रीत्यर्थं सप्तश्‍लोकीदुर्गापाठे विनियोगः। ॐ ज्ञानिनामपि चेतांसिदेवी भगवती हि सा। बलादाकृष्य मोहायमहामाया प्रयच्छति॥1॥

दुर्गे स्मृताहरसि भीतिमशेषजन्तोः स्वस्थैः स्मृतामतिमतीव शुभां ददासि। दारिद्र्‌यदुःखभयहारिणिका त्वदन्या सर्वोपकारकरणायसदार्द्रचित्ता॥2॥

सर्वमङ्गलमङ्गल्ये शिवे सर्वार्थसाधिके। शरण्ये त्र्यम्बके गौरि नारायणि नमोऽस्तु ते॥3॥

शरणागतदीनार्तपरित्राणपरायणे। सर्वस्यार्तिहरे देवि नारायणि नमोऽस्तु ते॥4॥

सर्वस्वरूपे सर्वेशेसर्वशक्तिसमन्विते। भयेभ्यस्त्राहि नो देवि दुर्गेदेवि नमोऽस्तु ते॥5॥

रोगानशेषानपहंसि तुष्टा रूष्टातु कामान्‌ सकलानभीष्टान्‌। त्वामाश्रितानां न विपन्नराणांत्वामाश्रिता ह्याश्रयतां प्रयान्ति॥6॥

सर्वाबाधाप्रशमनंत्रैलोक्यस्याखिलेश्‍वरि। एवमेव त्वयाकार्यमस्मद्वैरिविनाशनम्‌॥7॥

                        ॥ इति श्रीसप्तश्‍लोकी दुर्गा सम्पूर्णा ॥

English Meaning

(Salutations to You, O Jagadamba) Even the consciousness of the Jnanis (Spiritually-Evolved souls) are part of You, O Devi Bhagavati, for You,make them attract towards Moha (Delusion) by Your Power, when You the Mahamaya Will so (such is Your Power and Divine Play). 1

(Salutations to You, O Jagadamba) O Devi Durga, Whoever Remembers You with Devotion, You Remove the endless Fears of Samsara from the mind of that Person, (And) Whoever Meditates on You in their Heart, You bestow exceeding Auspiciousness (which is beyond description), O Mother, Apart from You, Who else can destroy Poverty, Sorrow and Fear from our Lives? (which appears to be a never-ending cycle), Your Heart is always full of Compassion for rendering all sorts of Help to Your Devotees. 2

(Salutations to You, O Jagadamba) O the Auspiciousness in all the Auspicious, Auspiciousness Herself and Fulfiller of all the Objectives of the Devotees (Purusharthas – Dharma, Artha, Kama and Moksha) O the giver of Refuge, with Three Eyes (spanning the Past, Present and Future; and containing within them the Sun, Moon and the Fire), the Gauri (Shining One); Salutations to You O Narayani. 3

(Salutations to You, O Jagadamba) You are Intent upon Rescuing the Distressed and the Oppressed who take Your Refuge whole-heartedly, and Remove All their Sufferings; Salutations to You O Narayani. 4

(Salutations to You, O Jagadamba) You Exist in All Forms of All Gods, and You are the Possessor of All Powers, O Devi, Please Protect us from all Fears; Salutations to You, O Durga Devi. 5

(Salutations to You, O Jagadamba) When You are Pleased with our Devotion, You Destroy to the very Root our worldly Diseases (our inner demons); but if You are Displeased with us (for any reason), You will destroy All our Aspirations and Wishes (i.e. they will remain ever unfulfilled), By Your Refuge, Men cannot Go Astray and no Misfortunes can finally overcome them; Your Refuge Indeed is my final Refuge when I Depart from this World. 6

(Salutations to You, O Jagadamba) O Goddess of All the Three Worlds, when You are Pleased, You Mitigate All our Distresses. Thus, in this Manner, Your Grace Works to Destroy our Inner Enemies. 7

Meaning in Hindi

शिवजी बोले — हे देवी ! तुम भक्तों के लिए सुलभ हो और समस्त कर्मों का विधान करने वाली हो । कलियुग में कामनाओं की सिद्धि हेतु यदि कोई उपाय हो तो उसे अपनी वाणी द्वारा सम्यक् रूप से वूयक्त करो । 1

देवी ने कहा– हे देव! आपकी मेरे ऊपर बहुत स्नेह है । कलियुग में समस्त कामनाओं को सिद्ध करने वाला जो साधन है वह बतलाऊंगी सुनो ! उसका नाम है (अम्बास्तुति) ।

ॐ इस दुर्गासप्तश्लोकी स्तोत्र मन्त्र के नारायण ऋषि है, अनुष्टुप् छन्द है श्रीमहाकाली, महालक्ष्मी और महासरस्वती देवता है, श्रीदुर्गा की प्रसन्नता के लिए सप्तश्लोकी दुर्गा पाठ में इसका विनियोग किया जाता है।

वे भगवती महामाया देवी ज्ञानियों के भी चित्त को बलपूर्वक खींचकर मोह में डाल देती हैं ।

मां दुर्गे ! आप स्मरण करने पर सब प्राणियों का भय हर लेती है और स्वस्थ पुरूषों द्वारा चिन्तन करने पर उन्हें परम कल्याणमयी बुद्धि प्रदान करती है । दुःख दरिद्रता और भय हरने वाली देवी ! आपके सिवा दूसरी कौन है, जिसका चित्त सबका उपकार करने के लिए सदा ही दयार्द्र रहता हो ।

नारायणी ! तुम सब प्रकार का मंगल प्रदान करने वाली मंगलमयी हो । कल्याणदायिनी शिवा हो । सब षुरूषार्थों को सिद्ध करने वाली हो । शरणागत वत्सला, तीन नेत्रों वाली एवं गौरी हो। तुम्हे प्रणाम है ।

शरण में आये हुए दोनों एवं पीडितों की रक्षा में संलग्न रहने वाली तथा सबकी पीडा दूर करने वाली नारायणी देवि ! तुम्हे प्रणाम है ।

सर्वस्वरूपा, सर्वेश्वरी तथा सब प्रकार की शक्तियों से सम्पन्न दिव्य रूपा दुर्गे देवि ! सब भयों से हमारी रक्षा करो, तुम्हे प्रणाम है ।

देवि ! तुम प्सन्न होने पर सब रोगों को नष्ट कर देती हो और कुपित होने पर मनोवांछित सभी कामनाओं का नाश करती हो । जो लोग तुम्हारी शरण में जा चुके हैं, उन पर विपत्ति तो आती ही नही । तुम्हारी शरण में गये हुए मनुष्य दूसरों कॅ शरण देने वाले हो जाते है।

सर्वेश्वरि ! तुम इसी प्रकार तीनों लोकों की समस्त बाधाओं को शान्त करो और हमारे शत्रुओं का नाश करती रहो।
