Hibiscus tea has a ton of benefits. Hibiscus tea has been known to prevent hypertension, lower blood pressure, reduce blood sugar levels, keep your liver healthy, help with menstrual cramps, help with depression, aid digestion and help with weight management. It is rich in Vitamin A and C, contains minerals such as flavonoids and has laxative properties. And it tastes delicious!

Hibiscus tea, made from dried parts of the hibiscus plant, is deep red in colour. It has sweet and tart flavours, similar to a cranberry, and maybe consumed hot or iced. But does drinking it offer people any health benefits? Many people are familiar with the beautiful flowers of the hibiscus plant (Hibiscus Sabdariffa). People around the world use various parts of the plant as food and medicine.

Side effects of hibiscus are uncommon but might include temporary stomach upset or pain, gas, constipation, nausea, painful urination, headache, ringing in the ears, or shakiness.

Warnings:

Pregnancy and breast-feeding:

Hibiscus is possibly unsafe when taken in large amounts as a medicine. If you are pregnant or trying to get pregnant then avoid this tea, as it may abort the pregnancy.

Diabetes:

Hibiscus might decrease blood sugar levels. The dose of your diabetes medications might need to be adjusted by your healthcare provider. As sugar level may get altered due to the intake of this tea.

Low blood pressure:

Hibiscus might lower blood pressure. taking hibiscus might make blood pressure become too low in people with low blood pressure. This may cause weakness and may sometimes it gives a sensation of low energy.

Surgery:

Hibiscus might affect blood sugar levels, making blood sugar control difficult during and after surgery. Stop using hibiscus at least 2 weeks before a scheduled surgery. Or directly consult to your doctor.
