Mansa Devi Temple (Chandigarh)
Mansa devi temple is known as a shakti peeth or siddh peeth dedicated to Mother Goddess Parvati. It is very sacred shrine located in the Panchkula District (Haryana) India. This temple is spread in the 100 acres of the shivalik foothills ranges of village Bilaspur, near Mani Majra and Panchkula, its distance from Chandigarh is 8 to 10 km.
According to Hindu legends the head of Devi Sati had fallen down over here so this temple is dedicated for the completion of wishes. It is said that there are two temples in the same yards, one was built by the ruler of Mani Majra almost two hundred years ago after the completion of his wish. And later on maharaj of Patiala also built it after the completion of his wish.
Legendary story:
The legend has it, that there were a big yagna solemnized by Prajapati Daksha the father of Devi Sati, due to his anger he didn’t invited Lord Shiva and Devi Sati in the yajna but every devi devtas where invited. When Sati came to know about the yajna, she forced lord Shiva also to participate there but as lord Shiva is omniscient he stopped Devi Sati and revealed that something very bad is going to happen there.
Mata Sati was adamant and hence took a promise from lord Shiva that, he will not visit there unless that untoward or adverse happens. Saying this she went there to participate in the yajna. There she saw every other visitors getting respect and their parts in the yajna except lord Shiva which annoyed mata sati, even prajapati Daksha started making mockery of Lord Shiva resulting that, Mata Sati jumped in to that yajna fire, as fire was not able to burn her virtuous body so she did it via her yog maya.
When lord Shiva heard about the mishap he went there and took her burning body into his arms and started rambling here and there in deep sorrow. Devtas went to lord Vishnu and asked for the help, as if Lord Shiva can not do his work then this word may devastate.
Lord Vishnu sourced his sudarsan chakra and body of mata sati got scattered on the earth giving birth to the shakti peeth.
Here in Mansa Devi, her front head was fallen down hence this place is extremely pious and it is meant for the completion of desires.
