Medu Vada Recipe

Medu vada is very famous South Indian recipe. It is prepared with split black lentils along with herbs, I’ve not used onion in this recipe. Let’s learn step by step process to prepare this recipe.

Medu Vada Recipe

  • 1 cup overnight soaked Urad lentils
  • 1 tbsp Salt
  • 1 tsp Chopped curry leaves
  • 1 tsp Celery Seeds (Ajwain)
  • 1 tsp Cumin Seeds
  • 1 tsp Chopped Green chili
  • 1 tsp kasoori Methi (Dried Fenugreek Leaves)
  • 1 tsp Chopped Coriander leaves
  • 1 tsp Black pepper
  1. Strain and wash the urad lentils as shown in the image.
  2. Grind them without adding water, but if required then add 2 tbsp of water as shown in the image.
  3. Its consistency should be thick.
  4. Mix all the ingredients in the batter like salt, cumin seeds, celery seeds, chopped curry leaves, chopped green chili, kasoori Methi (Dried Fenugreek Leaves), chopped coriander leaves and black pepper.
  5. Mix it well.
  6. For testing whether it is perfect batter for medu vada. Add small amount of batter in the container filled with water if it starts to float then it is perfect batter.
  7. Heat oil in a pan.
  8. Apply water in hand and prepare medu vada.
  9. It will look as shown in the image.
  10. Deep fry it as shown in the image.
  11. Make it golden brown from both the sides.
  12. Remove it from oil and put it on kitchen towel.
