Panchratan Khichdi Recipe

Pancharatan mean five jewels and this recipe has got its name due to 5 different lentils being used, it is a concoction khichdi, I’ve also added several veggies for beautiful texture and nutrition, the process of cooking is very simple as I’ve chose pressure cooker, lets learn step by step process to prepare this recipe.

Panchratan Khichdi Recipe

  • 1 tbsp Pink lentils (Masoor dal)
  • 1 tbsp Split mung lentils (Mung dal)
  • 1 tbsp Split brown chickpea lentils (Chana dal)
  • 1 tbsp Toor lentils (Arhar/Rahar dal)
  • 1 tbsp Split black lentils (Urad dal)
  • 1 cup Rice
  • 1 cup Chopped Spinach Leaves
  • 3 tbsp Chopped Cauliflower
  • 2 Pieces Tomatoes
  • 1 Piece Green Chili
  • 2 tbsp Green Peas
  • 1 tbsp Mustard Oil
  • 1 tsp Asafoetida
  • 1 tsp Coriander Seeds
  • 2 Pieces Black pepper seeds
  • 1 tbsp Salt
  • 1 tbsp Turmeric Powder
  • 1 tsp Kashmiri mirch powder
  • 1 tsp Chole Masala Powder
  1. Take all the lentils and mix them together and soak them in water.
  2. Heat oil in a cooker and add asafoetida into it.
  3. Take all the vegetables as shown in the image.
  4. Add slit green chili in the cooker.
  5. Add coriander seeds along with pepper seeds.
  6. Add chopped cauliflower florets into it.
  7. Add green peas and mix them well.
  8. Add chopped tomatoes in the cooker and stir fry them.
  9. Add soaked lentils in the same cooker.
  10. Add salt and stir fry them.
  11. Add turmeric and kashmiri mirch powder into it.
  12. Add chopped spinach in the same cooker and stir fry them.
  13. Cook them unless it becomes soft.
  14. Add chole masala powder into it.
  15. Add water in the cooker and pressure cook it with 3 whistles.
  16. When pressure gets removed then open it and again ignite the flame.
  17. Add chopped coriander leaves.
  18. Add soaked rice in the cooker and pressure cook it with 2 whistle.
  19. Serve it hot with chutney, chokha, papad, dahi, anchar, fryums etc.

  1. This is regarding your PANCHRATAN KHICHDI recipe. My question is —
    while rice and dal together, I am afraid of over-boiling the rice. Hence please inform which type of rice you are using? — White Rice / Raw Rice / Brown rice / Basmati rice / Basmati Sella rice / Gobindo Bhog rice???

    • Thanks for the wonderful question! I am using sona masoori rice over here, but you can use any of them as per your choice.If it will over boil then also it is not a problem.
