Tomato Chutney/Chokha (Bharta) Recipe

Tomato chokha is a very easy and refreshing recipe, it can be served with any flatbread, khichdi, rice etc. It is quick recipe and its flavour easily melts in the mouth which revive and fortify one’s aura 😃 . I’ve used roasted tomatoes one can boil it even, but never wash it after roasting as it’s smokey flavour will disappear. Let’s learn step by step process to prepare this recipe.

Tomato Chutney/Chokha (Bharta) Recipe

  • 3 Pieces Medium to Small Size Tomatoes
  • 1 tbsp Chopped Green chili
  • 2 tbsp Finely Chopped Onion
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1 tsp Mustard Oil
  • 1 tbsp Coriander Leaves (If available then use as it will enhance aroma)
  1. Roast tomatoes, you can even boil tomatoes, I’ve roasted it because it will give my recipe an earthy flavor.
  2. Remove outer cover from tomatoes as shown in the image.
  3. Add chopped onion, chopped green chilies and 1 tsp of mustard oil in the same container.
  4. Add salt as per your taste, I’ve used a tsp of salt.
  5. Using hand or a masher, mash it to make it a slurry or paste consistency.
  6. Chokha is ready.
  7. Garnish it with chopped coriander leaves and the recipe is ready to be served.
