Hartalika Teej history, significance and celebration of the festival

If we discuss the land of miracles, the land of purity, culture, diversity, history and the occult, then we often come across our Indian Vedic culture. It is very difficult to summarize everything here in a single article. But if you dive deep into our ancient culture then you will learn about different Gods and goddesses, they have been classified according to the nature of individuals and Prakriti. There are three virtues which are being recommended in this universe i.e. (Satvik, tamasic and rajasic) and in the same way our preaching practices also vary according to the sect. Those who are willing to get prosperity, choose to worship certain Gods and goddesses. Those who need success preach to other Gods and Goddesses, and those who need universal powder also reach another sect and every sect has its demy Gods and Goddesses. Every God and Goddesses have its source, and all comes from lord Krishna who is mentioned in the Upanishads and Puranas as the powerhouse and divinity. There is a huge list of information you can grab from the preacher of different Gods and Goddesses according to our Vedic culture. Due to the visit of attackers and plunderers, our Vedic culture was almost destroyed. Even the huge repository of our ancient textbooks was burnt example the Thakshila university and Nalanda university, the remains are still available, but nothing is available in the form of text. But Indian culture always teaches us to have a Guru shishya Parampara and our knowledge repository was maintained and being transferred from generation to generation via this tradition. Even in very remote areas of India, you can see many cultural fests and cultural diversities, and everything is scientific if we talk about Hinduism. A simple tradition of what to eat, what not to eat, what to wear, what is the method of preaching what the method of occult rituals everting is still alive. If you will visit spiritual places, then you will find the answers to every question that the mind of a human being perceives and believe.

Coming to the topic, I would like to explain the power of this universe, which is lord Shiva and goddess Shakti, they are the power of the universe and many scattered universes. According to the principal Upanishad Shiva and Prakriti that is shakti can be preached to acquire many miraculous powers which are divine for mankind. Commemorating nature and its miracles people often preach to the Gods and Goddesses to acquire blessings for life and beyond life.

History of Teej vrat

Hartalika Teej is celebrated on the third day of the bright half of the North Indian lunar month, Hartalika Teej is one of the three Teej including Hariyali Teej and Kajri Teej that are celebrated throughout India by Hindu women. Hartalika Teej is one such festival that is widely celebrated, especially in the Northern states of India. This Teej festival is an all-women celebration where married and unmarried women seek the blessings of Goddess Parvati. Like other Indian festivals, this festival too has an interesting story behind it. So, let us understand the story of teej or as they often call it – “Teej Vrat Ki Katha”. The word Hartalika comes from ‘Harat’, which means abduction and ‘Aalika’ which means female friends.

According to our Ancient Indian Hindu History, there was a conversation between lord shiva and goddess Parvati on the Kailash Parvat, in the conversation goddess, Parvati asked lord shiva what is the best practice which women can do to get a husband or the better half like you, as after getting this information most of the women of the earth who are suffering, they can also get the good, better half and long happy life. So, lord shiva narrated the story of goddess Parvati, which was an ideal for all the women on the earth to follow, the incarnation of goddess Parvati as Shail Putri, the daughter of the king of Himalaya. Once upon a time she was doing extreme austerity for Lord Shiva, she kept herself hung upside down from the tree and stays in the same position for appeasing lord shiva, her hath yoga was slowly becoming very harsh day by day, and she stopped eating fruits as well and stays under the sun during the scorching summer, keep meditating in the extreme cold weather and under the rain and kept meditating intensely as it was her true love for Lord shiva, she was the sati incarnation and her eternal love for Lord shiva was everlasting, although she took new birth then also her soul was aware of her true love Lord Shiva. One day Narad dev visited the king himwan and Himwan told him about the extreme penance his daughter was going through. So Narad dev offered the marriage proposal of lord Vishnu to Parvati Devi, as she was very versatile and beautiful so he thought lord Vishnu will be the best groom for her, so Himwan without any hesitation said yes to the offer. But when this news was communicated to goddess Parvati, she became extremely sad and without uttering a single word she went to her friend’s home and started weeping, so her friends decided to abduct her and ran away into the dense forest, to stop her marriage to Lord Vishnu, which was fixed by her father.

On the next day, it was the third day of the bright half of the North Indian lunar month, also known as Shukla Paksha Tritiya of Bhadrapada month, when goddess Parvati did the fasting and created the Shivalinga with sand across the river and collected verities of fruits and did the puja and Jala Abhishek of lord shiva with the holy water, and along with her friends she did the vigil for the whole night and sang songs to appease lord shiva, and lord shiva appeared in front of her and asked what is the reason for preaching then she said I wanted to get you as my better half so lord shiva said tathaashtu! and disappeared, then the next day she did the visharjan of the shivling.  and she was sleeping on the bank of the river when all of a sudden, her father appeared and started weeping, then she said I wanted to get lord shiva as my better half but as you already fixed my marriage, so I am here. Later on, himwan accepted lord shiva as the groom of Parvati.

Hartalika vrat rituals and significance

The Vrat is observed for 3 days, on the first day that is on the Dwitiya tithi of Shukla paksha devotees wake up early and after taking a bath wear new dresses and cook kadhi Badi, rice, fritters etc. without any onion and garlic. Then after lunch, they prepare prasad which includes pedakiya or gujiya, thekua etc. On the Tritiya tithi the next day, the devotees wake up at 4 am and take Sargahi which includes sweets. then after bathing and sunrise, nothing can be taken which means devotees should stay Nirjala (no water and no food fasting). For puja devotees wear coloured attires, apply mehndi, and wear Bindi, to complete the look of a bride. The Puja place at the home should have the clay idols of Shiva and Parvati and Ganpati Ji, on top of a Banana leaf which is then kept on a plate. Bilva leaves, Dhatura, flowers, fruits and panchamrita are offered to Lord Shiva while the Honey is offered to Goddess Parvati. Devotees follow Jagran the entire night which means staying awake the whole night and singing devotional songs. The next day, the normal routine is resumed after visharjan, with breaking the fast and with completion of all rituals at the end of the celebration, women get blessings from their husbands and family members before consuming prasad.
