The legends have it that devotees who offer homage to the mother kali, she fulfils their every desire. This temple belongs to Dvapar yuga (द्वापर युग) and Satyug. (decades-old temple)

According to ancient epic Mahabharata when son of Ghatotkach (घटोत्कच) whose name was Barbaric (बारबॅरिक) did extreme penance to appease Adi shakti, who gave him the powder to win whole universe and all the lokas, after that boon he wanted to participate in the battle of mahabharat. His aim was to participate with those who are going to become weak during the war.

Lord Krishna was already aware of the fact that Barbaric has the power to finish this war just in a single day, so Lord Krishna examined Barbaric by asking him to penetrate every leaf of the tree behind him, then only he could be illegible to participate in the war. In a single strike, Barbaric penetrated every leaf except the one which was laying under the legs of Lord Krishna, the arrow was hanging in the air above Lord’s legs but could not penetrate the legs of Lord Krishna, and hence Barbaric offered his head to Lord Krishna.

But as Lord Krishna never wanted this to happen, so he asked yog Maya to cultivate his head from Amrit, as his head got alive once again then he prayed to Lord Krishna that his desire is to witness this war of Mahabharata, due to his sacrifice Lord Krishna allowed him to see this complete battle, even Lord Krishna gave him his own name that is Shyam, and now he is being preached as Khatu Shyam.

After the end of the battle when Barbaric was asked what he saw in this war, then he replied: I saw my Lord Krishna whose wheel was running (flying) everywhere in the battle no one fought this battle except lord Krishna and mother Kalka was drinking the blood of those who lost their lives in the war.

This Kalka Devi mata was there for accepting the blood of those who lost their lives in the war.

According to Puranas, During Satyug when all the Datyas, like Chand Mund, Sumbh Nishumbh, Rakt beej etc started devastating this whole world then Devatas were also afraid of them.

Devatas started Extreme penance to appease Adi Shakti who took the form of mother Kali and gave them Salvation, and the same Mother Kalka is situated here.
