Kathal (Jackfruit) Kofta Recipe

Jackfruit can be considered as vegetable when it is raw but after ripening it turns out into a tasty fruit. It is wholesome either as fruit or vegetable. I’m cooking jackfruit kofta which is very delicious with aroma of spices in it, I’m using boiled potato instead of gram flour and in last two steps I have used another process also, you can use either of them for binding of kofta bolls. Let’s learn how to cook this recipe.

Kathal (Jackfruit) Kofta Recipe

For kofta bolls

  • 1 cup Boiled and mashed Jackfruit
  • 1 Piece Boiled potato
  • 1 tbsp Semolina
  • 1 tbsp Salt
  • 1 tbsp Mustard Powder
  • 1 tbsp Curry Powder
  • 1 tbsp Red Chili Powder
  • 1 tbsp Ginger Garlic Paste
  • 1 tbsp Garam Masala Powder

For gravy

  • 1 Piece Roughly Sliced Onion
  • 1 piece Tomato
  • 2 tbsp Ginger Garlic Paste
  • 1 tbsp Coriander Powder
  • 1 tbsp Turmeric Powder
  • 1 tbsp Chopped Green chili
  • 1 tbsp Red Chili Powder
  • 1 tbsp Curry Powder
  • 1 tbsp Coriander Leaves
  • 1 tbsp Cumin Seeds
  1. Take mashed jack fruit, potatoes, semolina and spices together and mix it well to form a dough as shown in the image.
  2. Form the shapes as shown in the image.
  3. Take 2 tbsp of oil and sear the koftas, I am shallow frying it, one can deep fry even.
  4. Take it out on kitchen towel.
  5. For Gravy grind onion, tomatoes along with green chili.
  6. Heat a pan and add cumin seeds, mustard oil, followed by grind ingredients and let it cook for 2 minutes, after that add all the spices and cook for 5 minutes.
  7. Add kofta in the gravy and let it cook for 5 minutes. Even you can eat kofta bolls without adding in gravy.
  8. Garnish it with coriander leaves and serve it.
  9. In another process, one can add boiled jackfruit, gram flour, and spices to bind it and shallow fry or deep fry it.
  10. The process of cooking gravy is same as above and put the dumpling in it and serve it garnishing with coriander leaves.
