Whole Wheat Laccha Paratha Recipe

Laccha meaning layered, the name of this flatbread has been derived from the layers it carries due to the method of its preparation, it is very easy to be prepared, although there are many ways to form laccha to this flatbread but the technique which I am showing here is more appropriate to make numerous layers to this paratha recipe. It is an essence of cooking art which tells us how one can make delicious and tempting food from common meek ingredients by just deploying a new technique in its preparation. This layered paratha is also popular as Kerala parotta in Malabar region of Kerala. Let’s learn step by step process to prepare this recipe.

Laccha Paratha Recipe

  • 1 cup Whole Wheat Flour
  • 1 cup Clarified Butter (Ghee) (for both mixing the dough and for parathas)
  • ½ cup Water
  • ½ cup Dry Whole Wheat Flour
  • ¼ tsp Celery seeds
  • ¼ tsp Nigella seeds
  • ¼ tsp Salt
  1. Take whole wheat in a mixing bowl add melted clarified butter or vegetable oil in it.
  2. Mix them well properly for 5 minutes and prepare dough, divide them as many flat bread you will prepare out of these. With the help of rolling board and rolling pin prepare flatbread.
  3. Apply oil on flatbread.
  4. Sprinkle dry wheat flour on flatbread.
  5. With the help of knife cut the flatbread as shown in the image.
  6. By holding the sides of these strips wrap them as shown in the image.
  7. Apply little clarified butter and sprinkle some dried flour and wrap them as shown in the image.
  8. In the same way prepare the shapes.
  9. With the help of rolling pin prepare the layered flatbread with these shapes, take a pan and put the flatbread and let it sear.
  10. Apply clarified butter on flatbread.
  11. See the layers in the flatbread.
  12. It seems flakey.

  13. Serve it with your favourite curry.
