Moong Dal (Lentil) Dahi Vada Recipe

Once I was going though the verses of Charaka Samhita (The Sanskrit Text on Ayurveda) where I found a very interesting fact about wrong food combination, it was mentioned that eating split black gram ( Urad dal) along with Dahi (Curd) is not permitted according to Ayurveda.

Hence I thought to add some twist in my cooking so here it is…Moong Dal Dahi Vada. But let me tell you, it is equally delicious.

Moong Dal (Lentil) Dahi Vada Recipe

  • 1 cup Moong Dal (Lentil) (Washed and soaked )
  • 1 cup Curd
  • 1 cup Vegetable Oil
  • 1 tbsp Roasted Cumin Powder
  • 1 tbsp Black Salt
  • 1 tbsp Black Pepper Powder
  • 1 tbsp Salt
  1. Take washed and soaked moong dal (lentil) and grind it.
  2. Heat oil in a pan and fry vadas as shown in the image.
  3. When it turns golden brown then remove it and submerge it in a pot filled with water.
  4. Remove excess water and put it aside, whisk the curd for some time so that it can become creamy, put vadas in curd mixture. You can either use more curd to submerge them, but I’ve used just one cup of curd just to cover vadas.
  5. Garnish it with your favorite sauce, roasted cumin powder, and serve it.
