Non fried Potato Chops For Fasting

Chops are generally prepared with gram flour combined with several spices, but here I have used buckwheat flour as this recipe is for fasting, I have added permitted ingredients in the potato mixture but one can add or remove the ingredients as per one’s choice, we can call this recipe as aloo bonda, aloo pakoda etc. Let’s learn step by step process to prepare this recipe.

  • 1 Cup Boiled & mashed potatoes
  • 1 Cup Buckwheat flour
  • 1 tsp Rock salt
  • 1 tsp Ginger paste
  • 3 tbsp Chopped coriander leaves
  • 1 tsp Chopped mint leaves
  • 1 tsp Chat masala powder
  • 1 tsp Black pepper powder
  • 1 tsp Roasted cumin and carom powder
  • 1 tsp Chopped Cashew nuts
  • 1 tsp Chopped almonds
  • 1 tsp Raisins


  • Take boiled potatoes in a container 
  • Add chopped mint, coriander leaves & ginger paste
  • Add chat masala powder, black pepper powder, cumin and carom seeds powder, chopped cashew nuts, almond, raisins & rock salt into it
  • Prepare batter of buckwheat flour by adding a pinch of salt & a cup of water
  • Prepare the dumplings of potatoes as shown
  • Dip the dumplings in the batter.
  • Meanwhile heat the appam pan and grease it with mustard oil 
  • Put the dumplings and let it sear 
  • Flip it over and sear it from both the sides 
  • Chops are ready to be served
